Namaste Dosto (Hello Friends)!

Recently, on November 15, 2024, I visited Asia’s largest cattle festival. This festival is held annually in Sonpur, located 30 km from the center of Patna city, Bihar, India. It is also famously known as the **Sonpur Mela**.

This is Asia’s largest festival where you get the opportunity to explore the diverse art and culture of different parts of the Asian continent. Not only that, but you will also be amazed to see a wide variety of cattle, including horses, dogs, birds, and more.

It was my first time visiting this festival, and since childhood, I had heard a lot about it. There are many rumors and stories surrounding this festival. Finally, I got the chance to experience it for myself.

The festival usually takes place every year in November and December. This year, it started on November 13, 2024. As a child, I had heard numerous stories about this event, many of which turned out to be myths. Exploring the festival firsthand helped me clear up those misconceptions.

This festival is a major hub for buying and selling cattle, attracting people from all over the Asian continent. Various species of cattle and animals are brought here for trade, making it truly deserving of the title “Asia’s Largest Cattle Festival.”

When I visited, I was shocked to see that it was not just about cattle. People from different parts of Asia also come to showcase their unique arts and cultures. I got the opportunity to witness incredible cultural exhibitions, traditional art forms, and more.

This year, the festival also featured stalls representing government schemes, Khadi clothing, and various cultural performances. What made the experience even more special was listening to mesmerizing folk songs.

The festival was so vast that I couldn’t explore the entire market in one go. However, I never felt bored because of the vibrant dance performances and theater shows that kept everyone entertained. Although my time was limited, the experience was truly amazing.

If you’re planning to visit Bihar, India, in November or December, you must add the **Sonpur Mela** to your travel itinerary.
